Speaking at a press conference in Lucknow, he asserted that the SP remains strong and united. Akhilesh squarely blamed the BJP for spreading false propaganda, accusing the ruling party of having a history of poaching leaders from opposition parties through lures and intimidation — pointing out that several SP MLAs, MLCs, and Rajya Sabha MPs were previously won over by the BJP. He acknowledged that some leaders do switch parties due to personal interests and internal pressures, but expressed confidence that the SP is fully prepared to face such challenges. Akhilesh also took a sharp dig at the Yogi government, vowing to wipe out the BJP in Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's own constituency of Gorakhpur in the upcoming elections. The controversy follows claims by UP Minister Raj Bhar that the SP is splitting, and allegations that senior SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav had written to Amit Shah expressing intent to join the BJP along with several other leaders.
