As the most digitally connected and hypersexualised society in history, Dr Lauren Bull warns us that we risk losing the richness of authentic human connection. In a world where we can access porn at our fingertips, young people’s views of sex and pleasure are being reshaped, with honest, vulnerable conversations about intimacy, consent and pleasure missing from sex education. Drawing parallels between fast, efficient communication in the real world, and efficient KPI hitting in the clinic room, this talk will examine the role of the healthcare professional in all of this, and why meaningful connection matters: whether it is in the bedroom or the clinic room. Dr. Lauren Bull is an NHS Sexual Health Consultant and passionate educator redefining how we talk about sex, intimacy, and human connection. With over a decade of experience teaching sex education to thousands of young people, Lauren brings clarity, compassion, and humour to some of the most misunderstood aspects of modern life.
Armed with a Master’s in Public Health and seven postgraduate diplomas in holistic health, she blends medical expertise with a deep understanding of emotional wellbeing. Her TED Talk, “When Porn Becomes the Curriculum: Killing Real Connection One Click at a Time,” challenges how digital culture and hypersexualised media are shaping young people’s understanding of pleasure, consent, and connection and asks what we’re losing when honest conversations go missing.
Lauren is on a mission to bring vulnerability, authenticity, and real talk back into our relationships-whether in the bedroom, the classroom, or the clinic room. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
