The Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered a repoll in 15 polling booths across two Assembly constituencies in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district. Scheduled for Saturday, May 2, 2026, the fresh voting follows allegations of widespread electoral malpractices, including EVM tampering and the use of spy cameras during the second phase of polling held on April 29. The decision impacts 11 booths in Magrahat Paschim and four in Diamond Harbour, both high-stakes regions where opposition parties alleged that buttons for certain candidates were covered with tape or ink.

This is the first time repolling has been ordered in the current 2026 Assembly elections for the state. The ECI’s move comes after a fact-finding report from a special observer, aiming to maintain the integrity of the mandate before the final counting on May 4. As the state remains on edge, the Supreme Court is also set to hear a concurrent plea by the TMC regarding counting supervision, adding to the high-voltage legal and political drama unfolding in Bengal.
