The YBE Social Justice Committee was honored to welcome Dr. Jean-Paul R. Contreras deGuzman (he/him), Mariko Fujimoto Rooks (she/her/null), and Gina Mie Goosby (she/her) in conversation on the intersection of Buddhism and colonial legacies.
At the event on Tuesday, August 31, at 5:00pm PT, our speakers examined our society’s history as inheritors of colonial systems, reflected on how colonialism’s impact is perpetuated today through othering, marginalization, hatred, and violence, and explored the ways decolonial frameworks can shape their lives.

What is 𝔽𝕒𝕔𝕖 𝕥𝕠 𝔽𝕒𝕔𝕖?
The YBE Social Justice Committee is proud to present our summer panel series, 𝔽𝕒𝕔𝕖 𝕥𝕠 𝔽𝕒𝕔𝕖, to our community. Inspired by our ever-growing and diverse Buddhist sanghas, we wanted to provide a space for people of all generations and all Buddhist sects to come together in a community. Come join us as we come face to face with each other and topics important to our society. This free workshop series will be led by leaders and members of the Buddist community and is structured to be both educational and discussion-based.
Here is a schedule of the topics we will be covering this summer. More details to come.
