Lord Ram stayed here during exile
The Hindu mythological epic, Ramayana, stated that Lord Rama and Lord Lakshman stayed in this cave for some time during 14 years of exile. And also set up a court. According to historians, the emerging Godavari river flows as a deep river from the rocks inside the cave flows down in another cave and then disappears in the mountains. Later the water is seen coming out of the huge rock roof. It is said that from where the water comes out, it is the remains of the demon Mayank. It is said in the old stories that when Mother Sita was bathing, this demon tried to steal the clothes of Sita Maa. Then Laxman killed the demon for this inferior work of demon Mayank.
