My Rides - Marlow Loop

Описание: Welcome to my channel if you’re new here, and a big thank you to all of my subscribers for being part of the growth in this channel.

WARNING – Videos of riders “favourite routes” can be pretty boring, so proceed with caution!

This is a relatively short 33-mile loop of Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire, that approaches from the High Wycombe side of the historic market town of Henley-on-Thames and takes the long route around to The Thames and Marlow with its iconic bridge.

On the way, I pause at the gatehouses of a magnificent hillside estate owned by one of the well-known home builders in the South East. I then ride into Henley to the 62-acre estate, ‘Friar Park’, bought in the 1970’s by Beatle, George Harrison. Just a few miles further, is the fine Tudor country house ‘Greys Court’ which is now owned by the National Trust and has featured in a number of films & TV productions.

Stop at Watlington Hill Viewpoint for a short break to sit and spot the soaring Red Kites that frequent this location. At Ibstone, I point out ‘Cobstone Windmill’ that was previously owned by the actress Hayley Mills & her film producer husband, Roy Boulting. This windmill was featured in the 1968 film, ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ and an episode of the ‘New Avengers’ TV series.

The ride culminates in the pretty, Thameside town of Marlow as we cross the bridge that was a prototype for the much larger bridge across the Danube in Budapest!

The ‘My Rides – Marlow Loop’ route can be freely downloaded from my MRA account via the following link. It has been created within the ‘MyRoute-app’ routing tool and has been checked for compatibility with Garmin & TomTom GPS units.
