Walking in the Rain, Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall | Mid Wales

Описание: A short walk in pouring rain along the woodland and hillside paths to the spectacular Pistyll Rhaeadr falls - one of the highest waterfalls in Wales.

Pistyll Rhaeadr is a three drop waterfall down a 73 metre high cliff face which makes it all the more stunning. We walked to the base of the falls, then to the iron bridge crossing the River Rhaeadr - for one of the best views of the falls, and finally up the rugged hillside to see the top of the falls and views out across the surrounding countryside. Here there are other small waterfalls all pouring into the river after heavy rain before it heads down dramatically over the cliff.

Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall is 4 miles from the small village of Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant in north Powys, Mid Wales. It is about 16 miles west of Oswestry.

A single track lane leads to the Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall - this can become extremely busy and sometimes even congested during busy periods such as public holidays and warm sunny days. We recommend visiting "off peak" and during rain (which leads to a much more dramatic waterfall!) which is how we managed to have this beautiful spot all to ourselves for a couple of hours.

There is a privately run café nearby the base of the falls where it is possible to park, relax and enjoy refreshments. It is best to check online for up-to-date details of availability of space and the current parking charges.
