Hey, neighbors, it's Trevor with etrailer. Today, we're taking a look at the RockyMounts GuideRail on the back of our 2017 Ford Explorer. Now, a cool thing that sets RockyMounts apart is anywhere you have to touch on the bike rack to actually use it, it's gonna have this blue finish on it, and also is just a nice accent color to the rest of the bike rack. Now, another thing about the RockyMounts GuideRail is it actually has this kind of raised section going up to kinda keep enough ground clearance, so you don't have to worry about the bikes bottoming out while you're driving. Plus, also, if you ever wanna access your tilt away, since it is a lot higher up, it's a lot easier to actually manage to grab a hold of and lower. Now, with the bike rack tilted back, we can open up our back hatch and show you we have plenty of room to actually get back here, access anything that we need to take out, or to just sit down after a long bike ride.
Now, we can go ahead and put the bike rack back up, and also show you how to take it off, 'cause taking off is just as easy. All you have to do is press down on this tab here to release the tension actually on the bike. Fold it back, and now, you can push the hoop off. And then whenever you do the last one, make sure to grab your frame, because after that, there's nothing actually holding the bike in place. Now, to put it back up, all you have to do is fold that tab back down.
(wheel hoop ratcheting) And push it back down. Once it's in place, we can go ahead and get some measurements. So from the rear of our bumper to the farthest outside edge, we're looking at about 28 1/2 inches of extra length being added to our vehicle, which is just good to know if you have to go into any tight parking spaces or park in the garage. And now, another thing is with this rack, you can actually fold it up into a store position. Once you hear it clicks, that means it's locked in in place.
And then we can see how much room we saved, which is about 12 1/2 inches of length. So you can see we saved quite a bit of room by folding it up. Now, this bike rack will work with any two inch by two inch hitch receiver, and it also comes included with a locking anti-rattle hitch pin. Now, another thing about the bike trays is it'll have a 60 pound weight capacity per bike that's gonna be able to accept maximum tire width of three inches. And plus, on these hoops, you have this part here that's adjustable for different tire sizes.
Only downside is you have to take and use a tool to actually take the knob off and move it down. Now, if you like the wheel hold design and the extra ground clearance that it gives you, this is gonna be the perfect bike rack for you. If you're not too concerned about the ground clearance, but you still want that tire hold design, the Inno HD Tire Hold is gonna be a great option for you. And it'll even be able to hold 80 pounds per bike instead of 60 like this one. But in summary, this is gonna be a great bike rack, and it's gonna get the job done for you. I hope this video helps you in determining if the RockyMounts GuideRail is the right choice for you and your Ford Explorer. My name's Trevor, and thank you for watching.
