CONGRESSMAN LEWIS: Mr. Chairman, I move to strike the last word.
CHAIRMAN NEAL: The gentleman is recognized.
CONGRESSMAN LEWIS: Mr. Chairman, I want to thank you for your leadership, for your vision. I thank all of my colleagues for getting on the right side of history.
When we see people in pain, see people hurting, seeing people living in fear, as Members of this body – Barbara Kennelly will tell you, because she served here for several years – that we have an obligation, a moral obligation, to do what we can to respond to the pain, the cry, and the hurt of people, and that’s what we must do.
Mr. Chairman, thank you for your vision. Thank you for getting in what I call good trouble, necessary trouble, to bring this legislation before this body.
With that, Mr. Chairman, you have my support, and I will do what I can to see that this legislation is passed and signed into law.
