Gundam Battle Assault 2 Amuro Playthrough (PSX) (Eien Ni Tinyass Gundam Hammer Hitbox,)

Описание: Playthrough of Gundam Battle Assault 2 as the original RX-78-2 Gundam piloted by good ol' Amuro Ray.

Battle Assault 2 is pretty good! I mean yeah it still uses the ammo and limited super stock system but still, it feels like they made the machines a bit more responsive. The boost system was overhauled now, featuring an on-screen three-segmented Boost bar. This time you can only do at least three boost jumps rather than one long continuous boost movement.

They also added G Gundam mechs since that show was airing in the US around that time, as well as more After Colony stuff in the form of most of Gundam Wing Endless Waltz' mobile suits.

But when suits got added, suits also got removed. The Zeta MSes, The-O, Qubeley and Zeta Gundam itself got dummied out, apparently because Sunrise and the US were planning something with Zeta's TV broadcast at the time. Its not because they had to make room, all the removed suits are still available via hacking. It boggles the mind. And yes Hamma Hamma is still in the code and playable via hacking like it was in Battle Assault 1.

None of the original Battle Master cast return in this or does budget Japan-only versions. Every pilot is a canon Gundam face, so now Amuro is piloting the OG Gundam (and Nu Gundam too). As you can see, "Street" Mode was added that's basically a story mode for a large number of characters, basically going through a version of their personal stories from the anime.

In Amuro and RX-78's case, its a retelling of the One Year War, AKA the events of the original '79 anime, more or less. Which means about 65% of Amuro's opponents here will be Char Aznable. And two of them in his iconic red Zaku! I do like how all of Amuro's opponents here ended up being UC mechs at least.

One good thing about RX Gundam is that it now has a super! Yeah it didn't have one in previous games but now it does, and its that silly little flail, the Gundam Hammer. The downside is its almost farcically useless. Its hitbox is solely in its spiked ball which flies at a wild arc that you basically have to do from afar, thus telegraphing it. I found the best way to land it is to knock the opponent down after depleting a lifebar, as their hurtbox becomes wide enough that the Gundam Hammer might actually land. You might even be able to land another!

Alternatively I guess you can try the Gundam Javelin in midair...maybe.

Big Zam returns here, once more piloted by Dozle Zabi (sorry, "DOZUL"). Once again he can be gotten around by getting behind him, though now Big Zam makes more of a concentrated effort to face you again (though it still doesn't turn around.) Either way, still easy.

I found I had more difficulty with the Zeong (piloted by Char again) but shooting it from afar when I could and using Gundam Javelin a lot helped, plus its relatively big enough that a stray Gundam Hammer could hit it. Remember though, Ammo system means you can't just spam the Beam Rifle over and over.

And that's it! Pretty simple but makes a decent playthrough, yeah? I'll look at this game's weird Japanese versions later along with two more Battle Assault 2 videos before I close the book on PSX Gundam titles for a good long while. Just wish I was good enough to get around the CPU in Extreme VS so I could play that too. And record Maxi Boost ON. I mean if Namco ever put that on PC FOR FUCKS SAKE.
