To celebrate reaching over 340 subscribers, I decided to gather, edit, and upload all of my Airbus A340 footage since I started recording aircraft in 2021. With the majority of the A340s flown by Lufthansa during the summer travel seasons of 2022, 2023, and 2024, it is such a treat to see the rare quad-jets as they are soon going to be retired. First Flown on the 21st of October 1991 and entered service on the 15th of March 1993, with Lufthansa and Air France. The Airbus A330 and A340 have similar designs except the Airbus A340 has a larger wingspan and can fly farther with greater passenger capacity with the drawbacks of higher fuel consumption. The Airbus A340-300 is the most produced variant of the A340, with 218 aircraft ever produced. Powered by four CFM International CFM56 engines, the A340-300's engines were dubbed as "hairdryers" as the engines were considered underpowered producing about 34,000 lbf of thrust per engine. Airbus A340-300 can carry 335 passengers with a range of 7,150 nautical miles. The Airbus A340-500 is the second to last variant of the A340, first flown on the 11th of February 2002, and entering service with Emirates in 2003. The A340-500 was at the time capable of flying 293 passengers a staggering 9,000 nautical miles. Singapore Airlines utilized the A340-500 by deploying the aircraft from Singapore-Changi Airport to New York's JFK airport by flying over the North Pole becoming the longest non-stop flight in the world. The range of the A340-500 was unmatched until the launching of the Airbus A350-900ULR on the 13th of October 2015. The final variant of the A340 is the A340-600. First flown on the 23rd of April 2001 and entered service with Virgin Atlantic in August of 2002. Prior to the introduction of the Boeing 747-8 at a length of 250 feet and 2 inches or 76.25 meters, the Airbus A340-600 was the longest plane in the world at a length of 247 feet or 75.3 meters. Powered by four Roll-Royce Trent 500 engines with each producing 58,500 lbf of thrust, the aircraft can carry 380 passengers at a range of 7,550 nautical miles.
