Polish security services have detained at least a dozen individuals suspected of conducting sabotage operations on behalf of Russian intelligence, deepening fears of an expanding Kremlin- led “hybrid warfare” campaign across Europe.
The Internal Security Agency (ABW) announced on Tuesday that those arrested include both Polish nationals and foreign citizens, allegedly recruited to carry out acts of arson, surveillance, and disinformation aimed at destabilising the country. Officials said the suspects were involved
in coordinated attempts to disrupt military logistics, including transport routes used to deliver Western aid to Ukraine.
Poland’s Interior Minister, Tomasz Siemoniak, described the arrests as part of a broader crackdown on “foreign-controlled networks seeking to undermine national security.” He added that authorities have uncovered evidence linking the group to Russian handlers operating through Belarus and other neighbouring states. “We are witnessing a systematic effort by
Moscow to weaken our resilience through sabotage, propaganda, and cyberattacks,” Siemoniak said.
The arrests come amid growing concern in NATO and the European Union over what intelligence agencies describe as Russia’s escalating hybrid tactics — combining espionage, cyberwarfare, economic pressure, and subversive actions to influence European countries supportive of Ukraine. Several EU nations, including Germany, Czechia, and Estonia, have reported similar operations in recent months.
Poland, one of Kyiv’s staunchest allies, has been a key hub for military and humanitarian supplies heading to Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. The country has also faced an uptick in cross-border provocations, including suspected cyber intrusions and border destabilisation attempts involving migrant flows from Belarus.
Warsaw said security forces remain on high alert, with additional patrols deployed around transport infrastructure and military bases. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities warned that further arrests are expected in the coming weeks.
