Many autistic and AuADHD adults know that certain rooms feel “better” but struggle to turn that into words. They say things like “I freeze in meetings but I do not know what to ask for” or “I come home shattered after seeing people, even when I like them.”
If that is you, here are three conversations you can consider having to support your nervous system and your brain:
1️⃣ With a therapist
“I listen and speak better when the light is softer and you speak a little slower. Would it be possible to try that for a few sessions and see how it feels.”
2️⃣ With a partner or friend
“I want to be present with you. My nervous system copes better in quieter spaces. Can we choose somewhere calm so I do not spend the whole time in survival mode.”
3️⃣ With a manager
“In meetings I can focus more if one person speaks at a time and I can make notes while I listen. Would you be open to trying that structure for a while.”
They are information about how your nervous system works best. The goal is not to create a perfect bubble. It is to create enough safety for your real self to show up.
📣 Which conversation would be hardest for you right now, therapist, partner or manager?
