1940's Two Speed Enclosed Breast Drill Restoration

Описание: This two-speed breast drill is of unknown origin. If you know the maker please let me know. This drill was rusty, worn and wasn't rotating properly. Which made this a great restoration involving lots of fiddly parts, rust, and some interesting gears.

This breast drill was pretty straightforward. There was a handle missing and the drill did not rotate properly due to lack of grease. I started by dismantling the drill completely. After it was apart I soaked each part in degreaser to remove the old dirt and grease. Then I paint stripped all of the paint. Once clean of paint stripper I used Jenolite to effortlessly remove the rust. I then buffed everything to ensure everything was off and that the pieces not being painted would look new. The pieces that were to be painted then got masked, and then etch primed, high-build primed and base coated with acrylic pale green.

Whilst that was drying I set about creating a new handle for the neck of the drill. I did this by boring out a 3" blank handle and cutting, and adding some m8 threaded rod.

It was then time to reassemble. I added new bearings to the main shaft and new grease on all of the shafts and gears. Once I struggled the gears back into place and reattached the rest of pieces, the restoration was completed. This smaller project was a joy.

Disclaimer: I am no professional. Especially when it comes to electrics. It is certainly an area I am looking to improve in. I am completely self-taught and would appreciate any feedback, advice or constructive criticism.
