“I’d Love to Change The World” - Ten Years After - Bass Cover (w/Lyrics) FRANKS BASS COVERS
Released Aug 1971 from the album “A Space in Time”
"so, what you gonna do? ... I'll leave it up to you".
The Band
Alvin Lee (vocals/lead guitar); Leo Lyons (bassist); Ric Lee (drums); Chick Churchill – keyboards
The name Ten Years After is a tribute to Elvis Presley, one of Alvin Lee's musical heroes. It simply refers that the band was founded in 1966, “10 years after” Elvis' first year of success.
Cover Notes
Just an amazing bass line during the masterpiece guitar solo; I think I captured most of it but, who knows, there are several interpretations of what Leo Lyons actually did; so, I’ll just say I’m in the same area code.
The Song
Written and sung by Alvin Lee (1944-2013); it is one of the - if not THE - greatest anthem type / message songs that were ever written.
It’s about:
It's a song about us vs them and not knowing what to do about it. It's not anti-gay. Dykes (lesbians) fairies (gay men) were finally able to show themselves in society and the establishment hated it.
Or the counter argument: It is being told from the viewpoint of an older pre- boomer person who is talking about what they see taking place.
This is why it is a classic - counterculture song filled with a lot of opinions and interpretation.
Superb acoustic guitar work reminiscent of the folk and protest song movement of the 60's, finishing off with a brilliant wailing, soulful electric solo. This solo is in the ‘air’ guitar HOF.
