SPECIAL FORCES 7 SQUADRON CHINOOK BY DAY • COMBAT TRAINING LIVE AMMO FIRING RAF HOLBEACH AWR

Описание: In this video at Holbeach AWR, a place to bring your aircraft to blow up and shoot stuff and here we have a Mk6 Chinook from RAF Odiham. The squadron entering the range is 7 Squadron who are part of the Joint Special Forces Aviation Wing (JSFAW) and their role is to support the UKs Special Forces; the SAS and SBS. So you may notice some very different combat techniques. They will be using live rounds from the two M134 mini guns on either side of the aircraft and the M60D machine at the rear.

The Joint Special Forces Aviation Wing (JSFAW) is a Royal Air Force (RAF) and British Army joint service organisation that coordinates the provision of aviation support to the United Kingdom Special Forces.The wing is under the peacetime command of the Station Commander of RAF Odiham. However the Army and RAF retain full command of their respective personnel.

7 Squadron SF have a primary role to insert and extract SF personnel, vehicle, boats so operate on both land and sea. Operation include counter terrorism and resupply of SF (even behind enemy lines) of both SAS/SBS.

Just shortly after the Falklands War, the unit was formed and upgrades to the Chinook were carried out from their HC1 to a HC2/2a until eventually today they fly the HC6. The squadron have been involved in a number of operations and missions, here are just a few:

1983 - Chinooks from 7 Squadron, operating from Akrotiri, Cyprus carried supplies to British troops in Lebanon

1986 - Present - 7 Squadron undertook many operations in Northern Ireland

1991 - During Desert Storm 3 SF flight Chinook HC1s, each painted with special camouflage schemes and carrying extra avionics, deployed to a forward operating base at Al Jouf, Saudi Arabia. Missions included inserting SAS foot patrols into Western Iraq, resupply missions in support of SAS fighting columns operating in the western Iraqi desert and delivering SBS sabotage teams close to Baghdad.

2000 - 7 Squadron supported the 1 PARA Battle Group during Operation Palliser in Sierra Leone. The unit would later carry the SAS, SBS and Paras into the heart of the Sierra Leone jungle during Operation Barras.
December 2001 - the squadron flew SBS/SAS assault units onto the MV Nisha cargo ship in the English Channel

2001-2014 - Afghanistan. 7 Squadron supported UKSF operations in Afghsnistan

The Chinook is an extremely capable and highly versatile support helicopter that can be operated from land bases or ships into a diverse range of environments, from the Arctic to the desert or jungle. The aircraft may be armed and is fitted with a suite of self-defence equipment allowing it to operate across the battlespace. Chinooks are primarily used for trooping, resupply and battlefield casualty evacuation (casevac).

Secondary roles include search and rescue (SAR), and supporting a wide variety of specialist tasks, including the Military Aid to the Civil Authorities (MACA) commitment. A Chinook crew comprises two pilots and two crewmen, supplemented by specialists dependent upon mission requirements.

Holbeach Air Weapons Range is a United Kingdom Ministry of Defence academic air weapons range (AWR) located at The Wash where aircraft can fire live ammo, strafe, use laser, drop bombs or fire rockets in order to carry out combat and various training. Aircraft will need to be cleared to enter the range as well as been cleared for the use of ordinance. Aircraft will squawk 7002.
