In a significant step towards bolstering India's indigenous defence capabilities, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced a collaboration with French aerospace giant Safran to co-develop and manufacture engines for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), India's fifth-generation stealth fighter jet. The announcement was made during his address at the ET World Leaders Forum in Delhi, signaling a major milestone in India's quest for self-reliance in defence technology.
"We have also moved towards manufacturing the aircraft's engine in India itself. We are about to start engine manufacturing work in India with the French company Safran," Singh stated, highlighting the strategic partnership aimed at reducing India's dependence on imported defence equipment.
