With so many pure-software startups around, it can feel lonely
building real-life, physical hardware. There are more of us than may
meet the eye though. On March 22nd, we are coming together to meet in
real life, share our experiences and learn from each other. On the
agenda: food, roundtable introductions and a talk by Wired's editor in
chief Chris Anderson.
Chris is the author of The Long Tail and Free: How Today's Smartest
Businesses Profit by Giving Something for Nothing. In addition to
running Wired and writing, Chris is the founder of DIYDrones, a
successful open source hardware manufacturer and online community.

new form of entrepreneurship as people apply the Web's social and
innovation models to "small batch" manufacturing. Basing his talk in
part on his own experience in leading a large open source hardware and
robotics community at DIY Drones, Anderson describes how the new
digital prototyping tools such as 3D printers and CNC machines, along
with hackerspaces, web-based manufacturing services and marketplaces
such as Etsy and Kickstarter are creating a "long tail of things,"
mirroring in the physical world the web's revolutionary impact in the
digital world. In short, Atoms are the New Bits.
