I was excited to be nominated for an ‪@ecmaofficial‬ award this year for Children's artist of the year for 'Sticker on my Toe'

Big Thank you to my brother Colin aka KinderChartin' for all his hard work on this project.

He couldn't make it as he works closely with ‪@jimbrickman‬ and was too busy to get away.

We've all been to Newfoundland before.

In 2019, Sarah & the kids went, but I had to skip due to post-concussion stuff.

In 2009, I was at the ECMAs in Corner Brook - took a cab with ‪@RawlinsCross‬ . I was so much better at getting photos back then.

In 2008, I hit the stage with amazing ‪@the_idlers‬ at The Dock. And with Neil Conway at CBTGs.

My wife Sarah went to ‪@memorialuniversity‬ for a year - shout out to them for the hats and touch tank on the ECMA red carpet.

She worked at Fog City in the avalon mall, so when we heard the ‪@avalonmall5224‬ was sponsoring the Children's award. We took it as a sign to go.

I used to love going to the ECMAs and have performed many times. But this was my first time since 2010 in Sydney.

In 2011, I had a bad concussion and kind of disappeared.

The week leading up to the trip were a bit crazy as we got hit by an intense storm, but we got sorted.

It was my first flight with my daughter. Flying is still hard on my head, but it went well.

‪@classifiedmusic‬ was on my flight and said hello.

I spotted ‪@BrettMatthewsMusic‬ who would win Country Album of the Year.

And ‪@KayoGuevarra‬ who performed at the Gala. I also spotted throat singer Cynthia Pitsiulak and Bruce Morel who ran the first music business conference I attended in 2002 or so.

I also got a seat next to Meaghan Scott. Classmate from junior high. Prez board ‪@musicnovascotia2983‬Festival Manager for ‪@halifaxurbanfolkfestival4000‬ . Great to catch up and gain her insight.

We had an airbnb on water street, which was great.

We checked out Signal Hill and Quidi Vidi.

The red carpet was a blast.

We photo-bombed ‪@jahmilamusic‬ 3D video thing.

Big thank you to ‪@NeedsConvenience‬ for fulfilling childhood dreams of shopping for free.

Shout out to Bill Simms aka ‪@OlBillyBobBoy‬ who recognized me on the red carpet.

The free Blue Lobster Raspberry Lemonade on the red carpet was delicious. ‪@novascotiaspiritco.4847‬

Back when I was in high school in Fredericton in the 90s, ‪@MeashaBG‬ would perform at assemblies. She would go on to win an ECMA for Jazz release of the year.

‪@jahmilamusic‬ won for R&B/Soul Release of the Year and gains my full respect for encouraging conversations to help heal tensions with the ECMAs.

I've seen ‪@classifiedmusic‬ perform live more times than any other artist. The first time being back in June 12th 2000 in Fredericton with his Ground Squad Crew.

I was excited for my kids to see Classified perform. His "biggest loser" comment caught my son's attention. After winning his 5th ECMA award, my son leaned over and said "I guess he's not the biggest loser now". lol

Back in 2005 when I won my ECMA award, I traded CDs with ‪@VishtenMusic‬ . I fell in love with their music though... They won 3 ECMAs this year.

The day after the awards gala, I was pretty drained.

So we went for a hike at La Manche.

‪@hottoast‬ released a new possum song, which got the kids acting silly.

Sarah & kids went to ‪@johnsongeocentre‬ and the old Memorial hockey arena in the Dominion.

The kids were determined to hunt down new flavours of Crush: Lime, Birch Beer and Pineapple.

Saturday, I checked out some conference sessions and ran into Martin Hickey of the East Coast Top 30 Countdown.

Sunday was the awards show when the Children's award was to be announced.

I met the amazing ‪@Heather_Feather_childrensmusic‬ , who was also nominated in the Children category.

Her new music is amazing - "Happy For You" is so great. We can't wait for her new album in June.

And... she won the award. I was pumped.

Afterward, we picked up some free pizza, cheese curds & chocolate milk - Thanks to Dairy Farmers - at the ECMA Fan Fest. Where we saw ‪@rachelcousins3750‬ & ‪@deedeeaustinmusic‬ perform.

Sunday evening, we checked out Port St Francis and a lighthouse. Beautiful scenery. It was really windy though.

I thought it would be a great spot to record the speech I'd prepared if I won... but the wind drowned out my voice. Beautiful though.

It was snowing the next day when we left for the airport. In Ottawa it was to be 25 degrees.

I arrived home to some birthday gifts including a Traynor amp.

I was hoping for an opportunity to perform at the ECMAs, but despite that we still had an amazing time.
