This video is a detailed explanation of how and why the Freedoms of Air were formulated after the Chicago Convention of 1944.
In 1944, an International Convention was held in Chicago to establish the framework for all future bilateral and multilateral agreements to use international air spaces.
Since, the Chicago Convention Grants sovereignty to each country over its airspace thus any international air transport requires permissions form concerned states over which it flies or lands.
The freedoms of the air are a set of commercial aviation rights granting a country’s airline the privilege to enter and land in another country’s airspace.
