Suminagashi made simple - the art of Japanese water marbling - part 1

Описание: I am in love with this very simple marbling technique. It is quick to start and you don’t need lots of equipment. You will never produce the same pattern twice.

Suminagashi dates back 100s of years in Japan and simply means ‘floating ink’. The water tension on the Bath, keeps the ink floating, while adding a drop of dish soap to the ink helps it spread. Movement in the air and water results in fabulous patterns.

I take you through step by step and pint out a few of the things which might trip you up. Part 2 is coming next week, to help you add colour and show other ways of manipulating the ink and water. You can find it here from 1 March 2026:    • Видео
