Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is in high alert mode as Rajya Sabha elections approach (scheduled for March 16/17, 2026). Party MLAs gathered at Naveen Niwas (residence of BJD supremo and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik) for lunch followed by an evening legislature party meeting on March 15. This follows a strict three-line whip and mandatory training sessions (March 13–15) on voting procedures to ensure unity and avoid cross-voting or rejected votes. Amid horse-trading allegations (BJD accusing BJP), MLAs have been directed to stay in Bhubaneswar. BJD fields Santrupt Misra and Dr. Datteswar Hota (backed by Congress & CPI(M) for the fourth seat), while BJP eyes three seats. Tensions rise over the razor-thin battle for the extra seat in Odisha's 147-member Assembly.
