This is a joint seminar by the Center for Urban Responses to Environmental Stressors (CURES) and the Superfund Research Center for Leadership in Environmental Awareness and Research (CLEAR) at Wayne State University.
ABSTRACT
This presentation focuses on the history of the All of Us (AoU) Research Program detailing recruitment over the years up to the current status and focus of the Program. Dr. Peltz then discusses an overview of the Researcher Workbench, data currently available to researchers, examples of current funded projects using AoU data and a discussion of how to get involved.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Cathy Peltz has developed a strong background in orthopedic research, epidemiology and patient-centered outcomes research. Dr. Peltz worked in the Bone and Joint Center at Henry Ford Health System (Henry Ford Health) conducting orthopedic research before joining the Henry Ford Health Department of Public Health Sciences to oversee the All of Us Research Program and focusing on precision medicine and patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR).
This move was motivated by her desire to do cross-discipline research between clinicians and epidemiologists. This approach brings the patient voice to forefront in research projects, the results from which can directly impact and improve the patient’s clinical care. This type of patient-centered research can also increase the efficiency of care by determining what patient-centric factors are related to successful clinical outcomes.
ABOUT CLEAR
CLEAR is funded by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Superfund Research Program (SRP). The center is dedicated to understanding and mitigating adverse birth outcomes and serious developmental health problems that have been associated with urban environmental exposure to volatile organic chemicals or VOCs, a special class of pollutants found in the subsurface of post-industrial cities like Detroit MI. Sadly, Detroit has the highest preterm birth rate in the country (15.2%), and up to 37 of the 67 Superfund sites in Michigan must manage VOC contamination.
