In a surprise reaction from Russia, President Vladimir Putin warned Trump’s plans to take over Greenland were actually serious. Speaking at the Arctic Forum, Putin said the United States has been planning to annex the island since the 1860s. Greenland is home to 57,000 people and holds untapped reserves of oil and minerals. While Greenlanders are seeking complete independence from Denmark, they don’t support the idea of joining the United States.
