In 1968, a film about a superheroine known from popular fumetti comics, Satanik, hit Italian cinemas. The lead role was played by Magda Konopka, a Polish woman who had been trying her hand at modelling and acting for years, both in England and Italy. The film was directed by Piero Vivarelli.
Satanik is a mixture of sci-fi and giallo thriller. It tells the story of an old, deformed woman who gets her hands on an elixir of youth – the latest invention of a brilliant scientist in whose laboratory she works.
The scientist, as a scientist, has invented the elixir but still has to test it extensively, while the woman, as a woman (especially an old and ugly one), is impatient and wants to be young right away. Therefore, she will stop at nothing to achieve her goal... She eliminates the grumpy scientist, transforms herself into the beautiful and young Konopka, and does everything she can to make the most of her life. Unfortunately, until a certain point, of course...
The film is not as exciting and suspenseful as one might expect. Despite the presence of the beautiful Magda Konopka, who performs a striptease (twice), and despite the murders, shootings and chases, the film is a far cry from, for example, Diabolik. In my opinion, Satanik is a rather weak film.
