Hawaiian Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-81 (N859HA) History in less than 5 Minutes

Описание: Welcome to the Nova Airmada channel hello to my future subscribers and my loyal subscribers. Today’s aircraft is the Hawaiian Airlines McDonnel Douglas MD-81 in Hawaiian Airlines 1990’s era Pualani livery. Please watch to the end to see this aircraft’s full history.
This MD-81 was initially delivered to Hawaiian Airlines from the McDonnell Douglas factory in Long Beach California, on December 11, 1981. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney JT8D series low bypass turbofans, producing up to 21,000 lbf or 93 kN at full power. At this point in this airliner’s history, the aircraft was painted in Hawaiian Airlines 1990’s era orange and purple Pualani livery. While flying for Hawaiian Airlines, this McDonnell Douglas MD-81 Passenger loads could vary from 143 passengers to an exit limit of 172 passengers, depending on class layout and spacing between seats in each row. At this time the aircraft was registered as N859HA.
Kalitta airlines owned American International Airways would lease this particular aircraft in 1983. This airliner would retain the same registration as before, but would be repainted in American International Airways blue fuselage livery it had up to it’s dissolution in 1984. Speaking of 1984, this is when the aircraft would be returned for passenger service in Hawaii. It would fly with a hybrid livery, pictured here for a brief time.
The airplane returned to the North American Mainland permanently in 1986, when the previous iteration of Frontier Airlines took possession of this aircraft. The aircraft had a similar paint scheme from when it was with Hawaiian, except the cheatline went forward along the fuselage, rather than rearward as it had with Hawaiian.
Later in 1986, the aircraft would again be in a hybrid livery, as the aircraft and the entire company of Frontier Airlines was merged into Continental Airlines, along with Frontier Airlines’ parent company, People Express. In 1991, the aircraft received a new livery, the 1990’s era Globe paint scheme. Along with this new paint scheme, the aircraft was re-registered as N16884. This would be this aircraft’s last livery and last registration number
Everything changed for this airliner, when, during an engine test and other associated maintenance at Gate C115 at the Newark International Airport, the engine was turned on for a test after the cockpit engine control column had been replaced. However, due to a failure to follow procedures for such a test, the engine was started and immediately went to full power, which caused the aircraft to go over its own wheel chocks and plunge straight into the terminal. As can be seen from these photos the damage to the aircraft and terminal were extensive. While the airport terminal gate area was repaired and is in service today, the aircraft was written off by the airline and broken up for scrap at Newark International.
