Ringed seals are the only type of seals with specialized front paws with thick claws to dig out hole in the frozen land they live on. These holes allows them to dive into the sea below and pop out to breath. These breathing holes can be an elaborate network across the inland and some have even built burrows around them to rest and hide from predators. These burrows also act as protection for their pups against predators and the cold.
