Keeping your drain lines clean and your studio plumbing in good condition is essential to keep a happy studio! When I built my studio basement a few years ago, I knew that finding the right solution for a clay trap was key. So, I invested in a GLECO sink trap. It wasn't expensive- about $100 ($125 now) - which in the long run was WAY cheaper than paying a plumber to come out and unclog my pipes! I have been using it for several years now, and have been absolutely pleased with it's operation. I have to clean it out a few times a year, but the process is quite easy. In this video, I show how I drain the line, and empty the trap. The whole thing takes about 2 minutes if you aren't making a video! ;-) GLECO makes 3 sizes of trap packages- the difference being the capacity of the container which collects the sediment. I have the middle size, the GT 43. They also have a 16 oz and 64 oz. I purchased the 43, as I wanted the biggest container which could fit under my sink! They also have some others not as packages listed like a big jumbo one of a few gallons!
Here is an Amazon link to the 64 oz size. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...
I purchased my GLECO trap from my local ceramic supplier:
Cornell Studio Supply out of Dayton. http://cornellstudiosupply.com/produc...
But, you can also buy them directly from: http://sinktrap.net/

I am a public high school ceramics teacher at William Mason High School in Mason, Ohio. (Mason is currently the largest high school in Ohio!) As a potter, I have been working in clay for over 30 years, and I have been teaching for over 28 years, the past 20 have been specifically teaching high school ceramics. I love what I do! I have my own studio in my home basement, where I work on my personal pottery for my Etsy site; https://www.etsy.com/shop/KaransPotsA...
I started my Youtube channel a few years ago, to make videos to help my students if they are absent and miss a demo, or if they would like to explore more advanced techniques independently. I have been amazed to reach such a wider audience than my own students!
