Shows were happening wherever they could happen. One stop was the Sooner Theatre, where we worked with Michael Hedges, an unbelievable guitar player from Enid, Oklahoma. A true original. Gone too soon. Rest in peace.

Then came larger stages and bigger crews. One of the first real big stagehand experiences came working shows with Lynyrd Skynyrdand Bad Company. Different level. Bigger production. Real road lessons. You learn fast when you’re surrounded by professionals.

May 14th, at The Zoo, working B.B. Kingand Bobby “Blue” Bland. One of the coolest shows ever. During load-out, the tour manager stopped everyone and said B.B. King wanted to speak to the crew.

He lined us up single file.
Every single one of us shook his hand.
He thanked us personally for the work.
Then he gave each of us a small guitar pin.

That moment mattered.

When someone at that level takes the time to acknowledge the crew, it gives you something no paycheck ever can. Self-worth. Pride. A reminder that the work matters.

That was 1993, when B.B. King was still in strong health. A memory that stays forever.
