Fish Curry, grandmother's version. (Kari Ikan Sardine), loaded with radish and potatoes. Pls ensure you wash the potatoes skin thoroughly before adding into your cooking. This gravy best to serve with roti canai, thosai, idly and plain hot rice.
Ingredients
230g canned sardine / mackerel
8-10 baby potatoes, with skin.
1 tsp mixed spice / mustard
1 tsp fenugreek
2 red onion
1 green chili
1 cup of sliced radish
1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
2 tbsp fish curry powder
1 tbsp coriander powder
2 tbsp chili powder
1/2 tbsp turmeric powder
1 cup of water
1 tomato
1 cup of tamarind water
coconut oil / other cooking oil
1/2 cup thick coconut milk
2 sprigs of curry leaves
some coriander leaves
salt
Method
Heat pan with cooking oil. Add mustard seeds and fenugreek. Sauté for 20secs. Add onion, chili and garlic ginger paste. Cook till no raw smells. Add potatoes, fish curry powder, chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and water. Cook till gravy thicken slightly. Once thicken, add tamarind water. Let it boil again and cook till potatoes soft. Add mackerel fish with sauce, tomato, coconut milk, curry leaves and chopped coriander into gravy. Season with salt. Cook another 5-8mins using medium heat. Off the flame and enjoy.
