Clara Bow didn’t have an easy start in life – she was born into abject poverty in Brooklyn in 1905 in the middle of a heatwave and was not expected to live.
But she survived to become most of the most successful stars of early Hollywood.
Appearing in over fifty movies, Clara was the number one box-office draw and ultimate sex symbol of the movie industry. Where others acted, she came to life, lighting up the screen with her larger than life personality.
She was the first It Girl – a tough, self-assured young woman who seemed to epitomise the anything goes freedom of the roaring twenties.
Movie goers loved her, so did the gossip columnists and some of the things they wrote about her were true, although many weren’t.
At the height of her fame she simply walked away from all the glitz and glamour to become a rancher’s wife in Nevada?
Find out what happened to one of Hollywood’s brightest stars in Part One of this biographical documentary focussing on her difficult early years and rise to fame – a true to rags to riches story if ever there was one.
