Biodiesel may look just like regular diesel, but it's made from natural fats and oils - including soybean oil. In a state where soybeans are everywhere, that connection matters.
When soybeans are processed, most of the bean becomes protein meal used for food and livestock feed. What's left is oil - more than consumers can realistically use in things like salad dressing or mayonnaise. That surplus oil can be turned into biodiesel.
