Dream Pop: The Last Temple of Real Music is a reaction and commentary piece focused on the Dream Pop genre and a few of its representative artists. I am your host Paul T. and I will be reacting to these tracks:
SRSQ - Temporal Love
SRSQ (pronounced "seer-skew") is the solo project of Kennedy Ashlyn, also known as the lead singer of the band Them Are Us Too. Her music explores themes of loss, grief, and emotional introspection, often combining dreamy, ethereal vocals with darkwave and synthwave styles.
Love Spirals Downwards - City Moon
Love Spirals Downwards was reportedly a core part of the '90s ethereal wave movement. The band was founded by multi-instrumentalist Ryan Lum and featured different female vocalists. "City Moon" showcases their signature sound: a blend of shimmering guitars, reverb-drenched production, and haunting vocals.
Winter - Violet Blue
This song comes from the Los Angeles-based dreampop artist Samira Winter. The track "Violet Blue" is an example of her style, combining sun-drenched, lo-fi pop melodies with the hazy, distorted guitars.
NINA - 80's Girl
German singer-songwriter NINA. Known for her synthwave and retrowave sound, she pays homage to the 1980s with her music, embracing the aesthetics, fashion, and musical style of the era.
Tokyo Tea Room - If You Love Her
Tokyo Tea Room is a psych-pop band hailing from Canterbury, UK. "If You Love Her" showcases their blend of psychedelic rock, dreamy melodies, and pop sensibilities. Their music is known for its lush, hazy production and reverb-heavy vocals, which create a sound that feels both vintage and fresh.
The Sundays - On Earth
British indie band The Sundays, known for their dream-pop sound stunning vocals of lead singer Harriet Wheeler. "On Earth" is from their second album, "Blind", which was released in 1992.
Washed Out - Face Up
American electronic artist Washed Out, the project of Ernest Greene. Along with artists like Neon Indian and Toro y Moi, he's one of the pioneers of the chillwave genre. "Face Up" encapsulates his sound with its hazy synths and laid-back groove.
