In the holy city of Puri, where Lord Jagannath resides in his grand temple, there once ruled a powerful king. His queen, Padmavati, was known throughout the kingdom for her extraordinary beauty.

People constantly praised her. They admired her grace, her charm, and her royal presence. Slowly, praise turned into pride… and pride turned into ego.

Queen Padmavati began to believe that she was special — chosen, superior. She thought that because she was the queen, everything she touched became pure and sacred.

One day, food was prepared to be offered to Lord Jagannath as prasad. The aroma was divine. Before sending it to the temple, the queen tasted the food herself.

In temple tradition, offering tasted or leftover food — known as “jhuta” — is considered disrespectful. Food offered to God must be untouched and pure.
