Thousands of artefacts stolen from African towns, cities and palaces over the centuries line European and British Museums, institutions and the private homes of the rich and wealthy. Over the past decade or so African countries have been locked in negotiations with European museums for the return of their valuables but will be shocked to discover Christie and Sotheby’s announcements of auction plans
If action is not taken swiftly then the treasurers looted during invasions and colonialism of the finest of African treasurers will be sold to the highest bidders.
Sotheby’s, the storied British-founded American auction house and Christie’s have acted as the den for receiving stolen treasures and has been responsible for selling off African treasurers to private collectors..
Sista Shanice interviewed Vice Prime Minister Keturah Amoako of the State of the African Diaspora Government who has issued Christies, Sotheby’s, Museums and all other auction houses with a legal writ to cease and desist from selling the artefacts. They are also calling on the museums to disclose in an inventory all the stolen artefacts that they have in their possession. We also hear from Taiwo Orishayomi an author and entrepreneur of Nigerian origin about her views of this potential loss of these treasurers to her country.
