We present to you the 8th episode of our original VOD series, KO-WORKERS!👫

In our 8th episode, Irene goes to Changwon, which is a city located in Gyeongsangnam-do province.
Irene’s KO-Worker for the day is Bae Soon Hwa, who is a master at Korean traditional knots, Maedeup.🧵🧶
She had been doing this job every day since she was 17! The first part of the process requires dyeing silk yarn by soaking it in a blue pigment solution extracted from true indigo. Then using various equipment and techniques such as Kkeunmok (interweaving), it’s possible to create necklaces, bracelets, and so on using the knots. It seems that Irene is naturally gifted at this, as our Maedeup master points out. She follows complicated techniques without difficulty!
Join Irene as she works her way through the entire process of Maedeup, taught by the master herself. We hope this episode is informative and that you get a chance to experience these traditional jobs vicariously through Irene.
