This is a segment that aired on WTNH on Thursday, 12/12/13. Response Marketing is extremely proud to be a part of the Newtown Kindness organization and The Alternate Routes band.
Taking something so tragic and horrible and making a push for good--that's the mission of an organization called Newtown Kindness.
It began as a way to remember Charlotte Bacon, one of the six-year old victims at Sandy Hook. The non-profit is taking off through acts of kindness and song.
Charlotte loved pooches and the color pink. The tragedy was so painful, only kindness could help to heal in Charlotte's memory.
"Our slogan is, think kindly act boldly. So you can think about it all you want, but you need to act on it too," said Carolyn Walker of Response Marketing and NewtownKindness.org board member.
The website was created by Aaron Carlson. His daughter Ava was best friends with Charlotte.
Walker says Newtown Kindness was everywhere days after the unthinkable happened on 12/14.
"Aaron saw the good side. He saw the outpouring of love and support and kindness to the community of Newtown and Sandy Hook."
Newtown Kindness needed a way to promote its mission. The words easily flowed for singer/songwriters Tim Warren and Eric Donnelly.
"We are peace, we are one," they sang.
"These lyrics and these ideas jumped right out at people, so it seems there's a need for it," said Tim Warren of the Connecticut band Alternate Routes.
They wrote this song, titled "Nothing More," for their friends at Newtown Kindness. Just released two months ago, the tune is taking off far beyond what they had imagined.
"There's been a lot of momentum, people singing the song at their choirs, school, making their own videos," Warren said.
"To go to the schools and see that kids are not only enjoying the song, but the message of the song and taking part in it is kind of cool," said Eric Donnelly.
"Nothing More'' is being played on Adult Alternative radio stations throughout the country, and the song is being sold on iTunes for just 99 cents. All of the proceeds go to NewtownKindness.org.
"I would love for a million people to download the song, it would be phenomenal," said Carolyn Walker. "And then all of that money goes towards awareness, creating kind acts in children."
On this upcoming February 22nd, Charlotte would have turned 8 years old. It's a day that will mark the now annual Charlotte Bacon Act of Kindness Awards, recognizing children from around the country.
"We are accepting entries into the Charlotte Bacon Acts of Kindness Awards, kind acts or a kind story to share," said Walker.
Much like the organization, the song encourages love for each other and acts of kindness for people of all ages. It's a simple idea that needs to be put into action.
