Are you frequently told that you appear tired? Or do you often notice tired and aged-looking eyes when you look in the mirror without understanding why? Many of our patients express similar concerns. As we grow older, changes occur around our eyes that can lead to issues like eye bags, dark circles, and what is sometimes referred to as tear trough deformities. However, one of the main concerns people have about their eyes is the heaviness and drooping of the lateral brow, also known as the eyebrow tail, which can result in hooded eyes and sagging skin beneath the brow.
WHAT CAUSES HOODED EYES?
Hooded eyes or droopy eyelids occur when excess skin folds downward from the brow bone to the lash line, making the eyes appear smaller and giving a tired or aged look. Hooded eyes can be caused by genetic factors or the natural aging process that affects our facial features. The skin loses its elasticity and structural support, resulting in noticeable drooping. The muscles responsible for lifting the eyelid also stretch as we age, causing the skin to stretch and making fat pockets more prominent, which leads to drooping.
WHAT ARE THE MOST EFFECTIVE TREATMENT OPTIONS?
In the past, the only way to address this issue was through surgical skin reduction on the upper eyelid. However, there are now several minimally invasive treatment options that can effectively lift this area with minimal pain and recovery time - Botox, Fillers and Non-Surgical Skin Tightening Devices like Sofwave, are some of my favourites.
