Speaking at a London4Europe rally, Andrew Hesselden explains how tackling the omertà around Freedom of Movement of People could help unlock the political and practical impasse created by Brexit.
Much of the Brexit debate has focused on trade and economics. But mobility between the UK and the rest of Europe shapes people’s lives in very practical ways — work, study, family life and the ability to live across borders.
In this speech he explains why visas and visa waivers cannot fully replace Freedom of Movement, and how the 90-in-180-day problem affects British citizens who travel, work, or live in other European countries, whether that's for all of the year or just part of it.
He also discusses why practical interim solutions are urgently needed and matter so much now, while longer-term questions about the UK’s relationship with the EU continue to evolve.
Andrew Hesselden is a communications consultant working with clients across Europe. He founded the Save Freedom of Movement campaign and the 180 Days in Spain campaign. In November he was elected to the National Council of the European Movement UK, which campaigns for the closest possible relationship between the UK and the European Union.
