Entgegen der alliierten Auflagen (Verbot des Wiederaufbaus der Luftstreitkraft, Vertrag von Versailles) war dieser Fliegerhorst einer der ersten illegal errichteten Luftwaffenstützpunkte des nationalsozialistischen Deutschlands.
1935 nahm die Luftwaffenkaserne offiziell ihren Betrieb auf, Pilotenausbildung und Fernaufklärung waren die Schwerpunkte.
Den technischen Bereich bildeten sechs Flugzeughallen, eine Werfthalle, die Flugleitung mit dem charakteristischen halbrunden Beobachtungsturm und das Gebäude der Flugplatzfeuerwehr. Hinzu kamen Unterkunfts- und Kasernengebäude. Während des Krieges war ein Kampfgeschwader und die Aufklärungsschule der Luftwaffe hier stationiert.
Nach 1945 wurde das Gelände von den sowjetischen Streitkräften übernommen, die militärfliegerische Nutzung wurde nicht fortgeführt.
Seit Anfang 1990 verfällt das Areal stetig, einiges ist bereits abgerissen, einiges wird als Abstellhalle genutzt. In Anderes ist die Natur eingezogen, die keine Verträge, Kriege und Flugzeuge braucht... nur Geduld.

Contrary to the allied conditions (prohibition of reconstruction of the air force, Treaty of Versailles) this airfield was one of the first illegally erected air bases of the National Socialist Germany.
In 1935, the Luftwaffe barracks officially began operations, piloting and reconnaissance were the main focus.
The technical area was made up of six flight aisles, the control center with the characteristic half-observation tower and the building of the airfield fire brigade. Added to this were accommodation and barracks buildings. During the war a combat squadron and the reconnaissance school of the Luftwaffe were stationed here.
After 1945 the area was taken over by the Soviet forces, the use as a military airfield was finished. Since early 1990 the area decays steadily, some has already been demolished, some is used as a storage room. In other buildings, the nature is drafted, which needs no contracts, wars and airplanes ... only patience.
