On the occasion of the International Museum Day celebrated May 18, the Museum of Mediterranean and Near Eastern Antiquities had a special program to raise awareness of endangered cultural heritage focusing especially on Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria.
During the seminar day, internationally invited guests gave lectures and discussed how to preserve, develop and visualize cultural heritage, as well as how to prevent illicit trade with cultural objects during times of war and conflict. Swedish associations with ties to Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria were present throughout the day to share their cultural activities and each region's rich intangible cultural heritage. The seminar day concluded with a launch of the Swedish translation of ICOM's "Red List" for Syria and Iraq, a compilation of cultural objects from each country that is at risk for illicit trade.
