The Peruvian Capital City is full of controversy. This is my third month in the country and the sharp contrast between neighborhoods blows my mind on another level.
I’m living in this high-tech apartment with an amazing view somewhere between Barranco, and Miraflores. And my area is nothing short of a tropical paradise. It has clean streets, green parks, shopping centres by the beach with fancy restaurants, and of course those gorgeous sunsets.
However, as I step out of Barranco and Miraflores, the quality of life, as well as the social sentiment changes drastically. Every place is full of clutter, demolished buildings, and the streets are ruled by criminal gangs. So many of my local friends call this place Peruistan. Probably the most dangerous neighborhood here is Callao, but there is also a shanty town north of the city, where the quality of life was the absolute lowest.
So be careful when you book your place!
