On today's panel discussion we will be discussing on various education options after graduating from B. Optometry.
We will be talking about Fellowships, Optometry Residency programs, PG Diploma and Masters programs and give some insights to the fresh graduates about all the options available in Optometry after graduation.
Our Panelist:
Prof. Venkataramana
Prof. Venkataramana graduated baccalaureate in optometry in 1993 from Elite school of Optometry and later completed his fellowship in LVPEI in 1994. He then worked in Botswana as consultant optometrist for 2 years, returned to India and started his private practice called “KVKL eye care & Opticals” and then He joined “Sankara Nethralaya” and “Indian Institute of Technology Madras” for a DST sponsored research project in August 2012 along with PhD enrolment at SASTRA University, and is internal as well as external examiner to DNB ophthalmology students and Optometry students affiliated to Kerala University of Health sciences Thrissur. He is a member of IACLE and also has a FIACLE status. He has more than 25 years of clinical, academic and research experience, with “21 national and international peer reviewed research publications” to his credit along with a publication of a book “A Handbook on Practical Approach to Troubleshooting and Solution in Spectacle Dispensing” reviewed and released by Prof.Mo.Jalie. He is also a peer reviewer for SCI indexed “International Journal of Ophthalmology” and & Elsevier’s Journal of Current Ophthalmology, and his area of interest and specialization is “Aberrations correction with Contact Lenses”.
Optom. Usman Memon
Optom. Usman Memon got his Diploma in Optometry in 1996 from JPMT school of Optometry. He did his B. Optom from the Miraj College of Optometry and completed a Masters degree in Optometry from NIMS Jaipur in the year 2008. He is pursuing PhD in myopia control with MFCL from Gujarat University.
He is a Fellow of International Association of Contact lens Educators, Australia since 2008 and is associated with contact lens training and teaching at various institutes of optometry. He is assigned as KOL (Key Opinion Leader) by a few contact lens Companies to train fellow optometrist and opticians to dispense appropriate contact lenses.
Mr Usman is currently working as senior Lecturer with Nagar school of Optometry, Ahmedabad teaching UG and PG Optometry. He is the academic advisor to a couple of Institutes of Optometry in Gujarat. He is the Contact lens consultant at Shri. C. H. Nagri Municipal Eye hospital, Ahmedabad and senior consultant Low Vision, Contact lens and Pediatrics optometry at Banker Retina Clinic and Laser Centre, Ahmedabad. He is associated with United Institute of Design, Ahmedabad where he takes care of eyewear designing module for designers. His area of interest are speciality contact lenses including GP, Scleral, Orthokeratology, and Myopia Control management. He has worked on a wide variety of projects and has presented papers and posters at various national conferences
Dr Ramesh S.V
Dr Ramesh SV is the associate professor and head, department of optometry in Manipal college of Health professions. He completed his PhD in 2014 from Birla Institute of Technology and science, Pilani, India. He has received the Indo-US Public Health Research Post-doctoral Research fellowship-2014 at Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA. He has 58 research articles in peer reviewed indexed journals with H Index of 18 and has filed 3 patents. He is the one of the India Coordinator for ERASMUS Project- OCULUS Optometry Curriculum for Life long learning through Erasmus (OCULUS)He also has a keen interest towards techno-entrepreneurship, and is the founding director of VISINT Healthcare Pvt Ltd. His work on cost effective portable imaging device OcuDA, won the Gold Medal for best innovation at the DST-Lockheed Martin India Innovation Growth Programme-2013.
Dr Aditya Goyal
Dr Aditya completed masters of clinical optometry from Pennsylvania college of optometry, salus university and has been practicing optometry since 1991. He is the principal of sankara college of optometry and And is credited for establishing optometry colleges in Chennai, Bangalore, Ludhiana along with sankara eyecare group of hospitals. He also serves as president in the board of ASCO India
Dr Goyal is a PhD holder and a fellow of COVD. Currently he practices binocular vision and vision therapy and rehabilitation in vision aid clinic, Chennai.
Ms. A Valarmathi
Ms. A Valarmathi is a senior lecturer at sri Ramachandra institute of higher education and research. She graduated in Optometry and then pursued M Phil. She has published various books and papers and has given lectures and presentations on various CMEs, seminars and workshops. She is a member of Indian Association of Pediatrics, Indian Optometric Association, Optometry association of Tamil Nanbargal, COVD, OCI and ESOAA.
