'Party of Five' (1994) takes its title from five siblings whose parents are killed by a drunk driver. With ages ranging from one year old to 24, they now have to bring up each other. The show struggled but when it won a Golden Globe for 'best series' viewers started to take interest. Issues like substance abuse and mental illness were part of the mix. The ratings took a dive in season six, and that season's final episode found the siblings selling the house, dividing the money between them, and moving on to the next phase of their lives. The theme song 'Closer to Free', introduced in the first season, was performed by The BoDeans; it was composed by band members Kurt Neumann and Sam Lianas. While the song remained through all six seasons, the end credits varied.
