A quick evolution of the American tanker from World War 1 to the present day. This is a special one because we are looking at the specific crews that operate the steel beasts of the US Army. We start in the mud of 1918 where the American Tank Corps was just being born, borrowing the French Renault FT-17 and wearing modified doughboy uniforms.
From there we move rapidly into the Second World War. You can see the gear evolve from the early Operation Torch overalls to the iconic winter combat jacket (often called the "tanker jacket") used in the Battle of the Bulge and the push into Germany. This era sees the transition from the M3 Stuart to the legendary M4 Sherman and finally the heavy M26 Pershing.
The Cold War brings some massive changes. We see the "Tiger Face" paint jobs on M46 Pattons in Korea and the flak vests of the Vietnam War crews operating the M48A3. The timeline really shifts gears in 1991 with Operation Desert Storm. Here we see the introduction of the M1A1 Abrams and the famous "Chocolate Chip" 6-color desert camouflage. We end with the modern high-tech era, featuring the M1A2 SEPv3 in OCP camo, showing a fully digital and integrated armored force training alongside NATO allies (notice the Polish flag in the background of the final shot).
It is fascinating to see how the tanker's kit went from a simple leather jerkin and a pistol to fire-retardant nomadic suits and advanced carbines in just over a century.
Actor Choice :
I used Brad Pitt as the model for this evolution. It felt like the obvious choice given his role as "Wardaddy" in the movie Fury. He has basically become the face of the American tanker in pop culture, so it felt right to have him pilot everything from the FT-17 to the modern Abrams. I know I used him already for the american soldier but he deserves multiple videos
Music Choice :
The song used is "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath. I spent a while thinking about this one. I heavily considered "Fortunate Son" by CCR, but that felt too specifically tied to the Vietnam segment and didn't fit the WWII or modern eras as well. I also thought about "The Caissons Go Rolling Along" for a more traditional march feel, but it lacked the intensity of armored warfare. I settled on Paranoid because the heavy, driving guitar riff perfectly matches the mechanical brutality of tanks. It bridges the gap between the gritty industrial nature of the 20th century and the high tempo of modern combat.
How this was made :
I use AI to help visualize military history concepts, while trying to remain as accurate as possible. Images were made with Google Nano Banana Pro after an in depth researched prompt on my side first. I then animate them with Kling O1 using Start/end frames for great visual results and good authenticity. I tried to get all the tank models and uniform details as accurately portrayed as possible but there are always some creative liberties wherever things are less clear cut or where the AI struggles with specific vehicle treads.
I'm passionate and research every video but I can definitely make mistakes so feel free to point them out ! I'm here to learn as well. Let me know if you spot any errors in the tank variants or the crew personal defense weapons.
