Some of us need a jacket (and trousers/pants in fact) that need less to be waterproofed from rain downpours, but simply windproof, snowproof and able to quickly release our perspiration as we exercise.

Outdoor clothing is increasingly expensive, and the marketplace a mess of marketing jargon and inconsistent claims. The North Face released Futurelight in 2019, rather similar to Outdoor Research's AscentShell. The aim was to unseat the juggernaut that is GORE-TEX and their family of technical shells. Here I pit the two together, plus some others to provide us with some context. I'll make follow-up tests, but I won't do straight up waterproofing tests, as that's not my niche.
