In the case of Poland’s Supervisory Chamber of the Supreme Court, the ECJ, based in Luxembourg, ruled that when a higher domestic court does not satisfy the EU's requirements for being an independent body, the remaining national courts should treat its decisions as having no legal effect. Commenting on this, Artur Nowak-Far, a professor of law at the Warsaw School of Economics, said that it shows how important the European Union's law is for the Polish legal system. According to Nowak-Far, the European judges' decision makes it possible to challenge all Supervisory Chamber of the Supreme Court judgments, as even those that do not contradict or violate EU law are still invalid.
