USTAD ILMAS HUSSAIN KHAN represents the famous Lucknow Gharana ( school) of tabla playing. His musical linage goes back to the origin of the modern tabla playing system. He is a great grand son of the great Khalifa Abid Hussain Khan, grandson of the inimitable Khalifa Wazid Hussain Khan and son of the illustrious Khalifa Afaq Hussain Khan.
Like his predecessors, ILMAS HUSSAIN succeeds in maintaining a perfect balance between the tabla and the baya drums, taking advantage of the timbre sonority, nuances and subtleties of each to the fullest extend.
The recital begins with Rupak Tal ( 7 beats), Ek Tal (12 beats) and continued with delightful performance is Tintal ( 16 beats) and concludes with Kharwa Laggi ( 8 beats).
