Dogs are here to teach patience and compassion for all who are willing to learn.
In India, Hindu or Vedic stories there are many famous dogs, the most famous of these is the dog in the Mahabharata that accompanied Yudhisthira, the eldest of the Pandavas. Yudhisthira was not willing to ignore the loyalty of the dog that followed him till his death and when entering the chariot to Heaven invited his loyal dog to enter with him. But Indra objected stating that the presence of a dog would defile Heaven. Yudhishtira is adamant. To him the dog was faithful and loving in the hour of entire solitude. Yudhishtira explains he cannot be happy in Heaven haunted by the thought of the dog so true. So he declines to enter Heaven and stay with his dog. It turns out that that was the final test for Yudhishtira who never swayed from the path of righteousness. Soon the very dog for which Yudhishtira refused Heaven was transformed to Dharma, the God of righteousness. And Yudhishtira had the rare honor of reaching Heaven in human form.
