This beautiful Aria (composed in the early 1730s) , also known as "Air on the G String", is a famous arrangement of the second movement from Johann Sebastian Bach's Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major, BWV 1068, known for its serene and emotive melody and is no doubt one of the most beautiful pieces ever written, although, don't I say that about all the songs I sing? After all they have all stolen my heart, or else I wouldn't be singing them!!!
This Aria was particularly difficult for me to sing, especially because I haven't had lessons in quite a few years. For some reason it is hardly ever sung, at least not in its vocalized version, one more reasons for me to sing it. The very long and high sustained notes, the jumps, and the fact that it is quite a slow piece, made it the more difficult for me to sing. I could have speeded it up considerably, but I felt that it went against the ambiance of this piece.
This Aria has been used in several films, such as The Spy Who Loved Me, and also in countless advertising campaigns (I wonder what Bach would have thought about that.....).
I filmed all the footage myself (other than the two bits where I appear myself), as I am now working completely on my own, and actually, this is the most complex video I have ever worked on so far, although, some of the others were pretty complex too! I didn't have a stabilizer at the time, therefore, filming in such dim light, was pretty hard and I am not the best videographer either, but, I loved doing it!
Visiting Blenheim Palace, not far from where I live, at Christmas time, is like embarking on a fairy tale. Everything you see in this video is real, all the lit stars and trees, the Christmas trees, the fire, the beautifully lit palace, the light beams, even Santa, oh yes, Santa was real too, the Christmas Market, the Merry-go-Round, all was there on the day. Of course, I then added some effects to give the video even more of a Christmas ambiance. Blenheim Palace is the palace where Winston Churchill, the very famous British Prime Minister during WWII, was born, and very much worth a visit at any time of the year.
I don't know the name of the orchestra you hear on this recording, as it was not mentioned on the YouTube channel where I got it from, and I never managed to get an answer from the channel's owner, but it surely is made out of very talented musicians!
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL.... AND I WISH YOU AN ABOLUTELY AMAZING 2026!!!! MAY IT BE A BLESSED YEAR FOR ALL OF US, AND ALL THOSE AROUND US!
